Education, Seminars & Support

We frequently speak to church groups and classes or in schools, public, private and parochial, and in the workplace, nursing homes, hospice service organizations, veterans groups, law, EMS and medical groups regarding issues of death, funerals and grief. We tailor to age and audience and according to the topic desired.

Topics include:

  • Death, Rituals & Religious Beliefs. Spiritual beliefs are reflected in death rituals. Different world religions and cultures vary widely in this area. The Christian faith can be affirmed by understanding and comparison. This is an interesting topic which focuses on the practices regarding death through the centuries.
  • Grief in the Workplace - This program gives information on coping with the death of an employee or the death of an employee's loved one. Support and understanding in the workplace helps the employee deal with his grief and engenders loyalty for his company which can result in less employee turnover.
  • Understanding Grief & Comforting the Mourning - This program deals with understanding the valley of the shadow of death and what survivors go through and why. Together we discuss the church's ministry and how you can help.
  • Children's Grief - We address a child's understanding of death, reactions, age characteristics, spiritual beliefs, relationship to deceased, fears, how to help them, when to be concerned, etc. (for parents, teachers & caregivers). We can also present programs for younger children and pre-teens.
  • Teens, Death & Grief - They are a group unto themselves! This is a key age for them to understand the reality of death and how their faith answers to death. It is also a key way to get their attention regarding the serious consequences of drugs, drinking and driving, etc. Coupling this with a tour of the funeral home can have great impact!
  • Widows and Widowers - Probably the largest group of bereaved in our community. What do they go through? How can you help? What are things they can do which help them survive and find hope again?
  • Under-recognized Deaths - There are many deaths which are under-recognized but their impact is also great ... miscarriage, SIDS, abortions, grandparent, sibling, death of close friend. The grief of family members, sometimes even decades later, needs to be understood and appreciated. Other issues we frequently address with community and church groups and in the workplace are the special griefs in coping with AIDS, homicide, suicide and sudden tragic deaths. Each is unique and deserves special understanding. We also provide more information and support to families dealing with terminal illness.
Some Special Things We Do

  • Holiday Grief Program which helps the bereaved with the special difficulties of the holidays. It also includes a candlelighting memorial and is held the week after Thanksgiving.
  • Annual Hospice Teleconference . "Living with Grief: Children, Adolescents & Loss" is the title of 2000's live teleconference. Baue Funeral Homes hosts this event annually in the spring. This event is held every year in the Spring.
  • Silver & Gold Club is a special group we sponsor for those 55 + in our community. We get together for lunch several times a year with guest speakers and entertainment, take short trips, network and socialize.
Other Ways We Can Help....

  • Funeral Home Tours - We give tours of the funeral home to any group for educational purposes. These tours have proved a springboard for discussion of spiritual issues. Most people have never been through a funeral home. People of any age can schedule a tour. Teens are the best! Some church youth groups and schools will schedule an annual tour for a specific grade.
  • Books, Videos & Brochures - We offer a complete grief resource library at our St. Charles funeral home.
  • Education Booths - We offer booths with grief education and other materials at health fairs, picnics, etc.
