Dorothy A. Lewis

October 21, 1923 — June 25, 2014

Lewis, Dorothy, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the age of 90. Dorothy was a loving wife to her husband, Harlin Lewis, and at the time of his death, they had been married for 63 years, 3 months, 13 days. They were absolutely inseparable.
She was a loving mother who set a shining example for her sons as to what to look for in a good wife and mother for their children. Happily, they all followed her example and chose wisely.
Dorothy had many friends and could always be counted on to help them whenever they needed it.
She was a longtime, faithful member of the Church of Christ.
In the final years of her life, Dorothy was afflicted with severe dementia. However, although that horrible disease robbed her of her memories to the extent that she didn't even know who she was, it was unable to take away her sweet personality and bright smile. They remained until her death.
Dorothy is survived by her three sons and their wives, who she always treated as if they were her daughters: Charles A. and Lee Lewis of Lancaster, CA; Ronald D. and Elaine Lewis of Inverness, FL; and Gary W. and Nancy Lewis of St. Charles, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlin B. Lewis in 2004 and by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean Lewis, in 1941. She is also survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by four brothers: Chester H. Elliott of Birch Tree, MO; Donald S. Elliott of Cuba, MO; Leo H. Elliott of Doniphan, MO; and Charles Dwain Elliott of Birch Tree, MO. She is also survived by two sisters: Jewell D. Cooley of Cuba, MO and Mildred J. Smotherman of Union, MO. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd R. Elliott, in 1936.
Her family's temporary loss is Heaven's gain - we will see her again.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
