Williams, Frank E., Sr., 91 years old, died October 1st. He was born in Woodward, Oklahoma to Garrett F. and Martha Eunice Williams (nee Scovil). The family worked between Oklahoma and Kansas, with railroad and grain elevator jobs. Frank graduated from Bluff City, Kansas, High School and Wichita Business College. In 1940 he began his career with the US Government. Frank worked for the Department of the Army in Washington DC, with the Army Personnel Record Center initially located at the Pentagon. While there, Frank met his future bride, Gladys E. Bennett who moved to Washington from Iowa, and was working as a secretary. They were married January 1, 1942. They moved to North Carolina, where their first son, Frank E. Jr., was born. Frank Sr. was called to active duty with the Army Air Corps in 1943. After WWII, and his honorable discharge from the Corps in 1946, his civil service work brought him to St. Louis, as the record center relocated here. Their middle son Douglas A. was born in McGregor Iowa, and their youngest son Bruce L. was born in St Charles. Frank continued working in St. Louis, and enjoyed a detail as Acting Director of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa. He retired in 1973. Frank and Gladys traveled well into retirement and visited all 50 states, and 20 countries. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in St. Charles. In 1996, after Gladys died of complications of Alzheimer’s, Frank served as a volunteer for 13 years with the Alzheimer’s Association. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, St. Charles for over 64 years. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1229, and Masonic Lodge 200 in Anthony, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters-Martha Vier, Eunice, and Lucille and his wife Gladys. Frank is survived by his brother Roy, three sons, five grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
