James R. Spooner

James Robert Spooner of Saint Charles, MO passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the age of 74. Cherished son of the late Capt. Wilbur E. Spooner USAF Ret., and the late Avis V. (Prine) Spooner. Devoted father of Christine (Jeremy) Newman, and grandfather of Wyatt and Camryn Newman. Husband of twenty-eight years to the late Kathleen Pickering Roloff Spooner. Dear brother of Irene Heisler and the late William Spooner.

Jim was born in Paducah, KY on December 31st in 1944. Jim traveled the world as an Air Force dependent from birth until age 16. Jim graduated from St. Charles High School in 1963, and then Jim proudly served his country enlisting in the USAF at age 18 in 1963. While serving he did a tour of duty in South East Asia during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967, honors included; the Air Force Commendation Medal and The Vietnam Service medal. After his Active Duty Air Force enlistment he earned a Bachelor’s degree at UMSL and subsequently enlisted in the Missouri Air National Guard where he proudly served his country again with the 131^st Civil Engineering Squadron at Lambert Field in Saint Louis until he retired in 2002 as a SMSgt.
