John Douglas Edwards, of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the age of 72. Loving husband of 53 years to Doris M. Edwards; beloved son of the late Carl and Doris Louise Edwards; devoted father of Steve (Tereasa) Edwards and Jennifer (Lou) Henderson; cherished grandfather of Morgan Edwards, Alden Henderson, and Madeline Henderson; dear brother of Kathleen (Lynne) Blomgren, Peter (Barb) Edwards, the late David L. (Irene) Edwards, and the late Michael Edwards. John is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbie Edwards.
John proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and he was stationed in South Korea. After the service he started his trucking company, which he owned and operated for more than 44 years. John was thankful to retire and be able to enjoy life and focus his time on his family, and he loved every minute he could spend with them.
John was a real spitfire, but very kind, loving, and family oriented. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking with his wife and taking care of the house. He was constantly evolving with his cooking and would find ways of making it better. John even learned how to make cinnamon rolls and treats for the dogs.
In his spare time, John enjoyed going golfing, especially the Par 3 course at Heritage. He and Doris had a place at Mark Twain Lake where he liked to run trout fish lines. He always looked forward to being outdoors and taking in the fresh air and sunshine.
John will be remembered for his loving nature, his wonderful laugh, and the care he took of his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
