Mary R. Wood

Wood, Mary R., of St. Charles, MO, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at the age of 93. Mrs. Mary R. Wood, daughter of Sydney and Bernice McMahon Whittaker, was born on September 14, 1922 in Witt, Illinois. She was a graduate of Witt High School. She and Ernest G. Wood were married in Witt on December 27, 1953. They had one son, Kevin G. Wood, who survives along with his wife Marcy.

Mary and her husband, Woody, managed the Staunton Country Club. They retired in Staunton, Illinois until Mr. Wood passed away. She and Woody enjoyed camping and travel. Mary was active in the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Staunton.

Mary moved to St. Charles, Missouri in 2001, where she resided at Jaycee Fairgrounds Village and served as Vice President of the resident council for several years. She was a member of St. Charles Presbyterian Church and helped with the weekly task of preparing the children’s pew bags.

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by her sister, Jackie Savant, brother-in-law Jim Savant, nephew Ken Savant and his wife Laurie, and great nieces Nicole and Cassandra Savant.
