Nancy R. Upton (née Harris) passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Beloved wife of Bruce Upton for 59 years. Loving mother of Julie (DeWayne) Mason and Paul (Kathy) Upton, and grandmother of Bryce, Sarah, Emily, Samantha, Bridget, and Max. Dear sister of Richard Harris, aunt, and great aunt.
Nancy was born in Rochester, NY, daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth Harris. She graduated from the State University of New York - Cortland with a degree in nursing. She loved to travel and met the love of her life, Bruce, while touring Europe. They soon were married and after a few years in Wichita, settled in Bridgeton and later Creve Couer, MO.
After receiving degrees in Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Nancy became a beloved teacher to many in Pattonville, Ferguson-Florissant, and Jennings School Districts. She later served as a teacher educator at UMSL. Nancy also served as a Girl Scout leader, room mother, and Sunday School teacher. Nancy and Bruce spent several years in Australia, enjoyed annual visits to Cancun, and in their retirement, continued her love of travel exploring Europe and the United States.
Nancy also loved to cook and entertain, cherishing her time with family and friends. She and Bruce were members of the St. Louis Jazz Club and enjoyed many concerts over the years.
