Alice Lea Rathjen

September 16, 1932 — April 4, 2020

Alice Lea Rathjen, of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday, April 4, 2020.  Loving wife of 68 years to Johan “John” Rathjen; beloved daughter of Ernest and Inez Stockton; devoted mother of Fred E. (MaryBeth Rogers) Rathjen, Donald J. (Cheryl) Rathjen, and Steve (Becky) Rathjen; cherished grandmother of Lindsey (Victor) Rodriguez, Ryan Rathjen, John D. (Sasha) Rathjen, Nathan (Laura) Kenny, Curt (Robin) Rathjen, Cassie Rathjen, and Dustin (Rebecca) Rosenberg; treasured great grandmother of Bettley Rodriguez, Alexia Rodriguez, Cruz Rodriguez, Avery Rathjen, Mason Rathjen, Mia Rathjen, Dayton Rathjen, Millei Rathjen, Tessa Rathjen, Barrett Rathjen, Dexter Tindle, Hope LaRue, Marshall Turner, Caleb Rosenberg, and Colton Rosenberg; great-great grandmother of Madilynn LaRue, Adeline LaRue; and dear sister of Glenda Stockton.  Alice was also preceded in death by her grandchildren, Nicole Rathjen, Tom Turner, and Natasha LaRue, and her great-grandchild, Talin Rathjen.

Alice was a wonderful homemaker for her family and she loved every facet of taking care of her family.  One of her many talents was baking, and she always looked forward to creating a special cake for each birthday, even if it meant staying up half the night to perfect the tasty treat!  She was also fascinated by genealogy, and through her research she was able to create an accurate and detailed family tree, which led her to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Alice had many interests throughout the years and each took her on a path where she was able to share her gifts with others.  She enjoyed quilting and she made wonderful pieces for many of her family and friends to remember her by.  Her creative spirit also turned her artistic talents towards painting pictures of landscapes, which are now treasured by her children and grandchildren.

As a nature lover, Alice enjoyed the outdoors, whether she was in her garden tending to her flowers or just sitting outside taking in the scenery.  She looked forward to camping trips with her husband, and they joined an RV travel club as well.  When they weren’t hitting the pavement on a road trip, they were cutting a rug square dancing and ballroom dancing.

Alice and John are together again, and surely they are walking hand-in-hand and enjoying a beautiful sunrise or sunset in the most glorious place.  They were loved greatly, and will both be dearly missed.

Memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to Dardenne Presbyterian Church.
