Allan Arthur Franz passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the age of 90. Allan was born in St. Louis on March 6, 1933. He graduated from Washington University in 1955, married his high-school sweetheart, Shirley Goetz, in September of that year, and worked as an accountant at Laclede Gas for more than three decades before retiring early to enjoy his leisure activities and his family.
Allan was active in the classic-car world, owning several collectible vehicles in his lifetime, attending car shows, and traveling the country in numerous car caravans. As a member of several local classic-car clubs, this usually quiet man could spend hours talking to his car buddies, which always perplexed his wife!
Allan and Shirley traveled extensively while they were able, though Allan was just as content to stay home and putter around in the yard and garden of their home in Defiance, MO, and enjoy the company of his cat, Jackie Blue. He loved a good meal, especially one that included dessert.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, a half-sister, and a half brother. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Jean (Bob) Ransom, Carol (Mark) Miller, and Patricia (Don) Seabaugh; eight grandchildren, Meredith (Joseph) Dino, Matthew Ransom, Rebecca (Christopher) Munsterman, Brian Ransom, Joshua Dalton, Sarah Miller, Jacob Dalton, and Alexander Ransom. Allan was also the proud great-grandfather of Ruth Munsterman (Rebecca and Chris).
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, November 16, at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or the Humane Society of Missouri.
