Allen E. “Sonny” Brandt, of Saint Peters, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the age of 89. Loving husband of the late Ruth Marie Brandt; beloved son of the late Iva and Earl Brandt; devoted father of Rick A. (the late Joyce) Brandt and Steven E. Brandt; cherished grandfather of Cory, Scott, Austin, Cody and Blake Brandt; treasured great-grandfather of David and Trevor Brandt; dear brother of Sherry Brandt, and the late Herschel Brandt, the late Cletis Brandt, and the late Dorothy (Pete) Valentine; and brother-in-law of Delores Brandt.
Sonny proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the war, he met Ruth at a local hangout, and won her heart once she agreed to dance with him. They married not too long after and continued to dance together whenever the music played a good tune for them. After he retired, Sonny and Ruth enjoyed camping trips together and with friends.
Sonny had a lifelong best friend, Griffin “Pee Wee” Hayes, and they had an incredible bond with one another; they were true brothers till the end. They joined the Army together and were pretty much inseparable. Even through his days at the nursing home, Pee Wee came to visit Sonny at least once a week; it was a wonderful friendship.
Sonny was a member of the Pikers Club, and proud of the fact that he was the oldest member there. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as long as he had a nice cold one to go with it. He loved going out on the boat, especially at their lake house. He was also a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and made sure he watched every game.
Sonny loved to entertain his family and friends, and he could make a friend just about anywhere he went. He would either give you a wink and a smile, or one of his famous one-liners, which were known as his “Al-isms.” As a member of the committee at the Senior Center, he looked forward to the dinners there and playing bingo. He made his rounds every week to the area grocery stores to get baked goods for the Senior Center as well.
Sonny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sonny's name to
American Heart Association.
