Andrew Aloysius Gerwitz, Sr., of St Charles, MO was received into his heavenly Father’s arms Monday, December 26, 2022, at the age of 98.  Beloved son of the late Frank Aloys Gerwitz and Margaretha (nee Buettmann); cherished brother of the late Frank Gerwitz, the late Margaret (Al) Weir, and the late Mary Ann (Ben) Eschbacher; loving husband of the late Sophie Gerwitz (nee Gondek) and the late Rae Ellen Reuck (nee Eubanks); dear father of Nancy (the late Lenard) Crum, Andrew A. (Jeanne) Gerwitz Jr., Judith McCabe, and Catherine Hicks, and stepfather to Arthur (Diane) Reuck; dearest grandfather of Chris Aubuchon, Denise Johnson, Andrew Gerwitz III, Heather Hicks, Daniel Gerwitz, Matthew McCabe, Jessica Winterowd, Christie Hicks, Laura Zarghami, and Mark McCabe; dear step-grandfather of Raelin and Noelle Reuck.  He has been additionally blessed with 13 great grandchildren.  Andrew was also preceded in death by his sons Michael and Joseph Gerwitz, and his great-grandson, Andrew A. Gerwitz, IV.  He was a beloved uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend to all.

Andrew was a wounded, decorated veteran of World War II while serving in the United States Army.  He worked for 37 years and retired from the United States Postal Service. Andrew was a member of the McBride High School Alumni, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Alumni, and a former member of the German Society of St. Charles.  He was also a member of the Yankee Division Veterans Association and Disabled American Veterans.

Andrew enjoyed spending his time gardening, keeping up with current affairs and working on crossword puzzles. Andrew was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.” (2 Tim 4:7-8)
