Anita Louise Hockett (Wildman) of Saint Charles, Missouri passed away on April 13th, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born in Colfax, Iowa and was the daughter of Thomas and Ruby Wildman. She was the devoted wife of Franklin D. Hockett for 71 years, and mother of Julie (John) Pallardy, Susan (Tim, decd.) Durnford, and Paul (Vikki) Hockett. The grandmother of Elizabeth (Gavin) Enck, Thomas Pallardy, Kathryn Durnford, Phillip (Kate) Durnford, Seth (Emilee) Hockett, and Samuel (Michelle) Hockett. The great grandmother of Claire Pallardy, Ellie Pallardy, Abby Pallardy, Zachary Enck, and Issac Enck. She is also survived by a sister, Yvonne (Max, decd.) Welshhons and nephew David (Amy) Welshonns.
Anita graduated from Mitchellville High School (Iowa) and the University of Iowa Nursing College (an avid Hawkeye fan). She maintained her nursing license and practiced as an RN since 1954. After a career in nursing leadership at SSM St. Joseph Hospital, she became the first Clinical Director of a new free medical clinic, Volunteers in Medicine (VIM). Given her service Anita was awarded a “Iowa Distinguished Service Award” in 2011 by the University of Iowa. She was also an active member of First St. Charles United Methodist Church since moving to St. Charles in 1965.
Following years of extensive traveling, supporting the Sugarette Drum and Baton Corps, she became a painter of primarily landscapes and annual Christmas cards. Her continued active role at VIM for 28 years was a source of great joy due to the patient care and the passionate fellow volunteers.
