Anthony William Vogt

July 9, 1911 — March 19, 2008

Anthony William Vogt, 96, entered on to eternal rest on March 19, 2008 at St. Joseph Health Center. Born on July 9, 1911 in Portage Des Sioux, he was the son of Christopher & Frances (Saale) Vogt. In 1934 he married Helen Meyers from West Alton, his lovely bride of 68 years. Together they raised ten children and called Portage home. Anthony retired from Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River, Illinois. He is survived by his children, Marvin (Dinny) F. Vogt, Tiny (Mary) Vogt, Lester (Mary) B. Vogt, Robert (Jackie) L. Vogt, Theresa M. Vogt, Susan (Michael) A. Cissell, Nancy K. Davis, Gloria Vogt, and Marlene V. Silverberg; his brother Clarence A. Vogt; daughter-in-law Gerry Vogt; 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen Elizabeth (Meyers) Vogt, his son Joseph A. Vogt; his great-grandson DeWayne Matthew Mitchell; his brother Sylvester Vogt; his sisters Stella Marie Campbell, Dionysia Echele, Agnes LaLumandier and Eleanor Schulze. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Portage Des Sioux. Memorials may be made to Masses, American Cancer Society, or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Maintenance Fund.
