Arleene Charlotte Strelow (nee Paynter), of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the age of 93. Devoted mother of Linda Thompson, the late David Strelow, and the late Daniel Strelow; loving grandmother of Craig Thompson, Laura (Ross) Story, and Jonathan (Kathy) Strelow; treasured great-grandmother of Gwen Story; mother-in-law of Karen Strelow and Clair Strelow; sister-in-law of Dolores Paynter; and aunt of many.
Arleene was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Louis and Anna Augusta Sadie Paynter; and her siblings Lorraine (Joe) Whitacre, Joyce Clapp, Alan Paynter, and Wes (Pat) Paynter.
Arleene was a faithful member of The Lutheran Church, and "XYZ" Group of Grace Church in Maryland Heights. She attended many women's guilds at church over the years and sang in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church St. Louis. Arleene loved sewing and worked into her 80's as a part time seamstress sewing for R.J. Liebe Athletic Company and sewing jerseys for the local sports teams. She was not afraid to learn new things and take on challenges. Arleene started her administrative career with Bell Telephone, then McDonnell Douglas and retired from The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod-International Center after 33 years, where she was proud to be a part of the stewardship department and helping with the missionary families.
Family was the center of Arleene’s life, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and celebrating whenever they could. She was the family record keeper; she was a very organized lady. Arleene was strong and faithful, a God-Fearing woman and was very independent until the end. She loved to share her faith and set a great example for all who came in touch with her. She loved good food and thought every meal should end in dessert as she loved her sweets. Arleene was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Arleene's name to Grace Church STL General Fund.
A celebration of life will be live streamed.
