Armand Amann of St. Louis, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the age of 94. Husband of the late Marijane Amann (D'Alessandro) and Mary Amann (Parolin); father of Diana Amann (Steve) of St. Charles and Pamela Garrett (Rick) of Kansas City; stepfather of Dominic Parolin, Ann Marie Collier (Earl) and Mildred Ecker all of St. Louis; and grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
Armand was born in St. Louis, but traveled the world in his 20-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation. An avid photographer, who developed and printed his own photos, he documented many of his experiences including the South Pacific during WWII and later Korea and Japan. While stationed in Hawaii, he learned to fly single-engine planes and to sail.
Returning to St. Louis, he finished his professional life at the Department of the Army. He continued his love of sailboat racing as a member of the Y Flyer fleet of Valley Sailing Association and later Carlyle Sailing Association.
In his many years of retirement, he enjoyed his family, traveling, golf, ballroom dancing, bridge, reading and tinkering in his workshop. We'd like to thank his bridge club and ballroom dancing group for enriching his life with their friendship during the last several years.
