Arturo C. Montes

Montes, Arturo C., M.D., of Saint Charles, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 56 wonderful years to Mary Etta Montes; cherished son of Dr. Luis and Gaspara Montes; devoted father of Michelle (Larry) Cowsert, Amelia (Daniel) Strawbridge, Maria (Mark) Cabonce, and Rebekkah Montes; loving grandfather of George Cowsert, Dr. Phillip (Jennifer) Strawbridge, Andrew (Katie) Strawbridge, Joji Cabonce, and Isabella Cabonce; treasured great-grandfather of Matthew, Benjamin, and Nicholas Strawbridge; and dear brother of Dr. Maria Louisa LaO, Luis (Zenida) C. Montes Jr., and Maria Corazon (Sylvestre) Tomeldan. Arturo is also preceded in death by brothers: Dr. Romeo Montes, Fernando Montes, Dr. Angel Montes, and Dr. Jose Montes and sisters: Elisenda Danganan, Adoration Ocampo, and Raquel Lopez.

Dr. Montes was a dedicated Family Physician for more than 52 years. Born and raised in Manilla, Philippines, Arturo received his Medical Degree from University of Santo Tomas before immigrating to Missouri in 1955. He served as Medical Director of Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home and served on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Opera Theatre. He also held prominent roles in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians, the St. Louis Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Philippines Medical Association of St. Louis, and was closely affiliated with the Christian Hospital of St. Louis and DePaul Hospital. Arturo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
