Barbara L. Varker

Barbara Lee Varker, of St. Charles, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 15 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Gerald Varker; grandson, Timothy Harrer; parents, Mary Ellen (Deets) and Claude Wilbur Hontz and sister, Shirley Rinehimer. Barb is survived by her four daughters: Mary (John) Meehan, Jean Varker, Jane (Jim) Harrer and Elaine (Jim) Vollmar; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Barb was born in Slocum Township, Pennsylvania on June 10, 1932, and was a coal miner’s daughter. The Varker family moved to St. Charles in 1962. She was a member of First St. Charles United Methodist Church for over 60 years and worked twenty-seven years in the St. Charles School District, serving five different schools and fifteen different principals. She was very creative and enjoyed painting, writing poetry, sewing and was always making something for somebody. Nature brought her great joy! She loved sunsets, picking up shells and rocks wherever she went, watching birds, and loved the colorful trees in spring and fall. She enjoyed extensive travels, ragtime and jazz music, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan!

Her love and devotion to family was her biggest joy and legacy! Family holiday traditions and being the biggest cheerleader for the activities and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and even her great-grandchildren filled her with great pride.

A life well lived; a love never forgotten.
