Basil Lewis, of Saint Ann, MO, passed away at the age of 61 on Thursday, April 16, 2020. He was preceded in death by his mother, Reba Lewis; and his brothers, Roland Lewis and Stacey Lewis.
Basil is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly Kay Lewis; his children, Sara Jean Ruemker, Carolyn Ann Lewis, and Gary Wendell Lewis; his grandchildren, Brielle Marie Ruemker and Cecilia Jean Ruemker; and his father, Richard Bayard Lewis.
Most important to Basil was his family, both immediate and extended. Basil was devoted to all members of his family and was someone they could always rely on for a helping hand and a unique sense of humor. He might give you trouble while doing it, but he would do anything to help his family in any way. Basil had a gift of making friends feel like family and cherished many lifelong friends, many since grade school. His favorite place was an outdoor gathering with delicious food cooked by his wonderful wife Kim and surrounded by family- you would never find him happier.
Cars were a great love of Basil’s – he spent many weekends meeting up with his buddies at a car show or drag racing alongside his son Gary, who he passed his passion down to with pride. Basil loved his dog, and they were usually by his side in his chair or in his truck. He loved camping and float trips with his family, tie dye and overalls were his attire of choice, and nothing made him smile more than a loud fireworks display. His younger days were spent with his innumerable friends riding Harleys and making memories they would laugh about for years to come.
Basil was a longtime member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and took great pride in work with the International Union of Operating Engineers until his retirement in 2010.
