Lonnie A. Sachs, age 45, of West Alton, Missouri died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. Born May 28, 1963, in Alton, Illinois, to the late Elmer "Pete" Sachs and Norma Sachs (nee: Eggert). He served the community of West Alton for 32 years. He currently serves as the Battalion Chief for the Rivers Pointe Fire Protection District. He was a former Board Member for four years and Fire Chief for 17 years of the West Alton Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in seeing it become a Fire Protection District through his years as Fire Chief. He was a past Board Member with St. Charles Dispatch and Alarm, past member of the St. Charles Fire Chiefs Association, member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri, and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Alton, Illinois. Lonnie worked for the Orchard Farm School District for the past ten years working with the Maintenance Team. When he was not working he enjoyed duck hunting, dove hunting, fishing, and being with family and friends. He was not a stranger to anyone and was a true friend. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Brenda Sachs (nee: Schallenberg); two daughters, Michelle and Danielle; one sister Cindy (Lee) Georges; his mother-in-law, Jody Frazier (and the late Frank Frazier); his father-in-law, George Schallenberg, and host of other family members. He was a loving brother-in-law, godfather, uncle, cousin, firefighter, and friend to many.
