Beatrice Virginia Smugala (nee Blake), of Lake Saint Louis, MO, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Sylvester Smugala; cherished daughter of the late Edward and Anna Blake; devoted mother of Clifford William (Beth Whittemore) Whittemore, Keith (Linda Dirkers Whittemore) Whittemore, Jeffery David (Kelly Jean Whittemore) Whittemore, Steven Edward (Cynthia Marie Whittemore) Whittemore, Virginia Ann Gabbert and Loretta Jane Armbruster; loving grandmother of Shane Whittemore, Blake Whittemore, Daniel Thess, Sara Thess, Christopher Whittemore, Karyn Whittemore, Justin Whittemore, JulieAnn Scarlatelli, Sean Whittemore, Shannon Whittemore, Danielle Lee, Matthew Whittemore, Lynn Weber, Jennifer Church, and James Gabbert; treasured great-grandmother of Sophia, Alina, Sam, Evelyn, Brooklyn, Landon, Kory, Carter and Collin; aunt, cousin and a friend to many. Beatrice is also preceded in death by her son, Wayne William Whittemore; two grandchildren, Robin Shoemaker-Mueller and Bryan Jones; sister, Irene Weber; and two brothers, Edward Blake and Richard Blake. Bea was a woman of great faith. She was a founding member of St. Giana’s Catholic Church and dedicated her life to serving others. She worked as a nurse and nursing director for over 50 years. In her free time, Bea enjoyed pottery, crafting and quilting and even opened up her own small shop, Touch of Old. Bea will be known for her servant heart and her caring personality. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Bea was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bea's name to American Cancer Society-Real Men Wear Pink.
