Bernard (Benny) Clermont, a Retired Electrician and Union Officer.
Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother the Church. Mr. Clermont died on April 1 at 8:10 am. He was 91 years old. He was born and raised in South St. Louis. He attended Holy Family Grade School, Christian Brothers College Military High School and Hadley Vocational Trade School.
He was a member of the Electrical Workers Union Local #1 from 1950 until his death. He was elected to and served on the Examining Board, as treasurer and Secretary of the Executive Board for Local #1. He was also chairman of the Adult Educational Committee.
As an electrician, he was a foreman and general foreman in charge of the electrical work on various jobs, Lindbergh High School, Forest Park Jr. College (West Wing), Hunter Engineering Co., John F. Kennedy High School and the convent for the Sisters of St. John’s Mercy Hospital. He also served as job steward on many jobs for his Local Union. He often said how very proud he was to be a member of I.B.E.W. Local #1 and the Retiree’s Club. He was an adult advisor of the Catholic Youth Council for the young adults of St. Monica Catholic Church from 1970 through 1978.
He loved playing golf with his sons and friends. As a hobby, he enjoyed working with stain glass.
Visitation at the Baue Funeral Home 3950 West Clay, St. Charles, MO 63301 on Thursday, April 5 from 3-8. Mass will be celebrated at St. Robert’s Catholic Church, 1424 First Capitol Dr., St. Charles, MO 63303 on April 6th at 10am. Internment: Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis.
