Bertha Marlene Fears (nee Smith), of Bourbon, MO, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late John David Fears; cherished daughter of the late William and Erma Lee Smith; devoted mother of Donna J. (Steve E. Thurmond Sr.) Thurmond, and the late John W. (Surviving - Helen M.) Fears; loving grandmother of Steve E. (Maria "Toni" Nichols) Thurmond Jr, Tabatha J. (Michael) Ransom, Becky R. (Jeff) Melton, John P Fears, Eva L. (Charlie) Feese, and Thomas M. (Jaimie) Fears; precious great grandmother of Elle Rennick, Blake Rennick, Loren Ransom, Ethan, Tanner, and Lilly Melton; beloved sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, Godmother, and friend.
Marlene was a devout member of the Community of Christ Church in O'Fallon, MO. She was devoted mother and brilliant grandmother and great-grandmother, and her greatest joy in her life was her family. Marlene was a wonderful cook, her specialty being biscuits and gravy. In her younger years she helped cook many of the meals at church. Marlene enjoyed the outdoors, as she loved camping and fishing. She was kind in ever since of the word. Marlene was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Marlene’s name to Tunnel to Towers in honor of her son John William Fears.
