Betty Jo May (nee White), of Saint Peters, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the age of 74. Beloved daughter of Schley and Ora White; devoted mother of Joe (Jeff Thompson) May; and aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. Betty was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wilford White, Marshall White, Hugh White, Ernest White, Ralph White, Lawrence White; and sisters, Mildred White, Evelene Wyatt, Florence Harris, Clarene Clayton, and Veedies Roberts.
Betty Jo was caring and compassionate, and she found her true calling as a nurse. She took care of many patients in her more than 34 years as an RN, and she spent most of her nursing career at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Betty enjoyed the outdoors, and once she retired, was able to focus on her garden. She pretty much fed just about the entire neighborhood with her vegetables that she grew with pride. She loved all animals, but took special care of her two beloved dogs, Rocky and Lady, and her cat, Archie.
Betty's son, Joe, was the center of her world, and not only was this a mother-son relationship, they were also best friends. She even went to Boy Scout camp, and showed off her marksman skills by winning the target competition. They were always a team and shared many fun moments together, especially any Whoopie Goldburg movie that was out. She was also a John Wayne fan, and could be found curled up on the sofa on any given night watching her favorite westerns. Betty was dearly loved, and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to
Humane Society of Missouri.
