Betty Lou Vandegriffe, of O Fallon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the age of 90. Loving wife of the late Charles Vandegriffe; beloved daughter of the late David and Florence Benton; devoted mother of Charles H. (Yvonne) Vandegriffe, Jr., Catherine (Richard) Koenig, Mark Vandegriffe, and Kevin (Dee) Vandegriffe; cherished grandmother of Renee (the late Scott) Hemmy, Amy Vandegriffe, Brian (Eva) Vandegriffe, Catrina Baldwin, Sarah (Matt) Eskew, Drew (Colleen) Vandegriffe, Dana (Scott) Krajacic, and Chad Vandegriffe; treasured great-grandmother of Regan, Natalie, Jack, Evan, Lucas, Zoe, Nolan, Alexander, Madisyn, Lucas, Emma, Noah, Blakely, Aiden, Liam, and Ava; dearest sister-in-law of Valerie (Steven) Lafonte; and dear cousin of Lillian "Tiny" Contini and Gene Janushanis.
Betty actively encouraged her children to be involved in sports, social and religious organizations, so they developed a well-rounded view of the world. She was an active member through the years in all types of activities supporting her family, such as PTA, Cub Scouts Den Mother, Rainbow Girls, Children's Hospital, and volunteered with other organizations in the community.
Betty also enjoyed scrap-booking, and she created beautiful works of art for her family and friends to enjoy. In her younger years, she taught racquetball, and she was quite competitive as an 'A' player with her husband and friends. She was great fun to be around, and she truly cherished spending time with her family.
Betty led a meaningful life successfully raising four children and lovingly supporting Charlie, her husband of 72 years! The special relationship she had with the "Man of her Life" was simply amazing, as he always referred to her as “Babe.” You hear the words Soulmate and True Love of Your Life, well both described the total devotion between these two wonderful people. The selfless support and undying dedication to each other and family made their relationship a "True Love Story!"
Betty was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Wounded Warriors.
