Dr. Bhugol S. Chandel, 63, passed away on December 2, 2017 in St. Charles, Missouri. Born in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, India to Dharam Singh and Saraswati Devi Chandel, he committed his life to serving his family and community. After marrying, he moved to the St. Louis area and has lived here for the past 34 years.
Dr. Chandel was an active and devoted member of the Hindu community, acting as the leader of the local Geeta Ramayan prayer group. Dr. Chandel’s latest project for the community included the construction of a Hindu temple for future generations to enjoy and use for prayer and cultural events.
Although he relocated to the United States, he was very connected to his Indian roots. He started the non-profit organization My Himachal, which is committed to preserve Himachali culture, and promotes, supports and expands the social and economic interests of Himachal Pradesh, India and its people worldwide. Dr. Chandel was also a champion of education, funding scholarships for impoverished students in India so they can continue their higher learning.
He has been a pillar of the St. Louis community for nearly four decades, ensuring new faces were always met with a warm welcome and a joke. His commitment to the next generation of leaders in the community was unparalleled and his guidance and mentorship will be missed by many.
He was a wonderful husband, father, family member and friend and was beloved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Suman, his son Rick, and daughter Priya, his brothers Subhash Chander, Manmohan Singh, Shashi Pal, Nittam Chandel, his sister Anita Chandel, and their spouses and children, and all of his extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at the Baue Funeral & Memorial Center, 3950 West Clay Street, St. Charles, MO 63301.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made in Dr. Chandel’s name to the Geeta Ramayan Group of St. Louis.
