Bill Mullins was born in southwest Missouri. He and his wife, Ruth, were reared in the St. Louis area and recently celebrated their seventy third wedding anniversary. They have been residents of St. Charles County for over forty years. After earlier interests in retail merchandising, and some time spent in the U.S. Army during World War II, Bill devoted himself to his primary career with the Suburban Journals. In 1957 he launched the St. Charles Journal and served as its CEO, president and publisher until retirement at the end of 1988. He also served for three years as president of the Suburban Newspapers of Greater St. Louis. Bill was named “Citizen of the Years” by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce in 1983. He is a former member of Lindenwood College Board of Overseers and is on the Advisory Board for St. Joseph Health Center and St. Joseph West. He has served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Greater St. Louis, Boone Center, Inc., and the American Heart Association. He has been on the Official Board of the First United Methodist Church of St. Charles and is a past president of their Methodist Men’s Organization. Bill Mullins joined the Rotary Club of St. Charles in 1958, served as treasurer and board member, and as president for the 1967-68 Rotary year. He served as District Governor for the fifty-five clubs in Rotary District 6050 in 1991-92 and continues to be active in Rotary International projects. He has a thirty nine year perfect attendance record in the Rotary. Bill and Ruth have two sons, Robert (Judy) Mullins and Douglas ( Donna) Mullins, four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
