Brian Rozelle, Sr. was born on July 29, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Ora Ellen Rozelle and the late Harry Lee Haskins, Sr. At the age of ten years old, Brian was led to the Lord by his beloved grandmother Elsie Rozelle and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church. Brian attended Beaumont High School and then served in the United States Army from 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1979. During his time in the military he successfully completed several technology certifications and after his discharge soon began his career with the United States Department of Agriculture. At the Department of Agriculture, Brian excelled in the area of technology and rose to the title of Team Lead/IT Specialist, Grade 13. In this role, he was instrumental in elevating the careers of employees and often provided mentoring and counseling. He was selected as the AFGE Local 3354 union representative and fought for the rights of his fellow co-workers. In all, Brian spent 34 years in service to the government and retired in 2009.
Brian was the father of four children that he dearly loved; Anita, Joaquim, Brian II and Brandon. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed RV traveling, fishing, cooking, playing chess, gardening and woodworking. Brian shared a love of Motown music with his cousin David Clark. They especially loved The Temptations and spent many family holidays dancing and singing to their music. He had a special bond with his Uncle John Rozelle and gained a true appreciation of art through John’s prolific artistic career. Brian loved to talk and was known for providing a supportive ear and a helping hand to his co-workers, friends, family and neighbors.
Brian is survived by his loving mother Ora Ellen Rozelle, his children; Anita Childress, Joaquim Rozelle, Brian II Rozelle and Brandon Rozelle, his siblings; Jeffrey (Joyce) Rozelle, Sr., Ellen Rozelle (Donald) Turner, Eric Marlon Rozelle, Margo Rozelle, Marsha Rozelle, Lee (Warren) Rozelle-Thomas, Joel Rozelle, Janine Rozelle and Jason (Lensa) Rozelle; grandchildren, Corey, Shermaing “Coco” and Chrissy. He was a beloved uncle, cousin, nephew and friend to many. Brian will be truly missed by his vast number of family and friends.
