Byron Reed Gordon, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the age of 88. Loving husband of the late Jane Rose Gordon; beloved son of the late Reed Gordon and Margaret Hopkins; devoted father of Debra (Steven) Bowman, Martha Henslee, and Steven (Lora) Gordon; dear stepfather of Janet (Jim) Hornberger, Bridget Sotengco, Sandra Pinkerton, John (Carla) Rohan, and the late Marlin "Mike" Rohan, Jr.; cherished grandfather of Bradley Henslee, Kaitlyn Henslee, and many more; dearest brother of Mark (Char) Gordon, Austin Gordon, Maryann (Jim) Schillinger, Patricia (the late Joe) Blaton, and Timmy Gordon. Byron was also preceded in death by his second wife, Stella Gordon.
Byron proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion for many years.
Byron graduated from Heald Engineering College in San Francisco, California with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He worked for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing and retired after more than 37 years as an electrical engineer. He also owned a real estate agency with his wife and they were very successful brokers.
On the weekends Byron loved golfing and was on a golf team. He also enjoyed bowling on a league with his buddies. He looked forward to playing cards with friends from the card club, and they always had a great time. As an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan, Byron took his kids to many games. In his spare time, he could be found watching the Hallmark channel.
Byron had a caring heart and enjoyed volunteering with the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. He was the sweetest man, and he also had a good sense of humor. He loved God with all his heart and was a wonderful Christian man.
As a family man, Byron always looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. There was nothing more precious to him than being there for his family; he even stood as the best man for his son's wedding.
“My grandpa had ears that always listened, arms that always held, love that was never ending, and a heart made of gold. He taught me how to have fun, he taught me about the world, and most importantly he taught me how to love. He was a man that was never cruel, saw the good in absolutely everyone, and had a joke for every situation. He was the perfect example of humility, grace, and strength. And most of all, he was the best grandpa I could have ever asked for.”-Katie Henslee
Byron was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made in Byron's name to
