Carl E. Sandbothe, Sr., of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the age of 86. Loving husband of 63 years to Genie Sandbothe; beloved son of the late George Sandbothe and the late Pauline (Ed) Sandbothe Farnen; devoted father of Paula Sandbothe-Swope and the late Carl E. Sandbothe, Jr.; cherished grandfather of Tiffani Overton and Claire Swope; treasured great-grandfather of Jayce Morton, Ryleigh Morton, and Jordyn Overton; dear brother of Paul (Shirley) Sandbothe, Mary Ann (the late Bob) Blunt, and the late Ronald (Jayne) Sandbothe; and brother-in-law of the late Fabiana Sandbothe. Carl is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Carl proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller. He was a former member of American Legion Post 312. He retired after more than 30 years with Nordyne as a plant supervisor.
Carl was a laid back, modest and gentle man. He was a jokester and pulled tricks on his family and friends. He was a great father who enjoyed going camping with his family in his younger years. As a motorcycle enthusiast, he always looked forward to riding his Honda Goldwing.
As an avid sports fan, Carl enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, and he loved NASCAR. He traveled to the races every year, including Daytona, Talledega, and Charlotte with his brother, nephew, and friend. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, and Florida. He loved being on the beach as much as he loved race cars.
Carl was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. And, as Carl would say, “Glad you got to see me!”
Memorial contributions may be made in Carl’s name to American Cancer Society or St. Vincent DePaul.
