Carol L. Hovatter

Carol Lois Hovatter was born September 27, 1923 to Arthur and Lois McVey in Turlock, California. She grew up in Parker, Arizona and graduated from Parker High School. She married William D. Wagner and had two children, Arthur and Heather Wagner. Widowed by 1956, she remarried to Dallas Hovatter, Jr., a widower in 1959. Dallas Hovatter had a daughter, Carolyn Burrows (nee Hovatter), and 2 step daughters, June Legar and Dorothy Winburn by his previous marriage. The family lived in Yuma, Arizona until 1968. Carol was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodge. They moved to Mexico, Missouri for Dallas to be District Manager for the Missouri Cities Water Company. Carol managed the Goodwill Store. In 1972 Dallas and Carol moved to St. Charles, MO. Carol was a housewife. During her life in St. Charles she was a charter member of the UMC Church of the Shepard from when it started meeting in the Fairmount Elementary School Cafeteria and through the building years of the church. She was active in the Kitchen Committee preparing many meals for the public, various church groups, and was a member of Faith Circle. She supported the Fish organization through volunteer work and donations. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Carol and Dallas traveled extensively and have been in all 50 states and parts of Canada. Carol always liked Nova Scotia best. She loved sewing, cooking, traveling, and making friends. She had a great sense of humor. Carol is survived by her husband, Dallas Hovatter, Jr.; her children Arthur and Romona Wagner, Carolyn and John Burrows; Heather Wagner-Towler and Joe Towler; Dorthy Winburn; June and Paul Legar; grandchildren: Joseph Wagner, Leah Wagner, Glen Wagner, Rebecca Aschenbrenner; Bethany Riddle; Quinlan Towler, Alden Towler, Leah Tom, Neil Winburn, Donna Sanning, Vicky Aller, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Frank McVey. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church of the Shepard.
