Carol Joyce Christensen Michalik passed away on December 14, 2024. She would have celebrated her 80th birthday in February.
Carol was born on February 10, 1945 in Central Wisconsin. Hard work and commitment to a job well done were almost part of her DNA. She started her early education at Natwick School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Pittsville High School as class salutatorian. She married the love of her life, Allan Michalik on June 6, 1964. In the early years of their marriage, Carol followed Allan to whichever destination his career took him. These locations included California, the Philippines, Minnesota, and eventually Missouri. Carol decided to pursue her college education after her two daughters, Christine and Correen, were teenagers. She attended St. Louis Community College and then Maryville Weekend College earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
She loved working as a computer programmer, writing code in COBOL and determining the root cause of problems. Whether programming, managing or consulting, Carol worked for D.D.A., UNISYS, Bull Moose Tube Company, Caparo Steel, and HON. Then, Allan began to follow Carol to meet her career goals, the opposite of how their marriage began.
In her free time, Carol loved fabric arts including sewing, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and cross stitching. She leaves us with beautiful treasures every one of them filled with hours of love and attention. She also loved to bake and take her grandkids along camping as often as she could.
Carol was a devoted wife of more than 60 years to Allan, an amazing mother to Christine and Correen, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and a dedicated friend to many. Her parents, Edward and Blanche Christensen (nee Strope), her sisters Evelyn Christensen Horn and Betty Christensen Tubbs, and her brother Edward “Jim” Christensen preceded Carol in death.
Carol leaves behind her husband, Allan, her daughters, Christine Michalik Douglas (Stephen) and Correen Michalik Macchi (Gary), and her grandchildren, Anthony Douglas (Hillary), Ashley Douglas Mesey (Daniel), Aurielle Macchi Carter (Bruce), and Tim Macchi. She also leaves behind her five great- grandsons, Paul and Ian Douglas and Daniel Jr., Hudson, and Maximus Mesey.
Carol’s family would like to thank the care teams at Twin Oaks Estate, Abbey Senior Health, and BJC Hospice for helping care for her in her final weeks as well as providing excellent care to all who loved her.
Donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the American Cancer Society. Her family also requests that you keep Carol in your prayers and consider offering a Mass intention in her honor.
