Cate Ellis was born in Ashland Wisconsin on March 15, 1955. She died on May 18, 2014. Cate grew up and attended high school in Phillips, Wisconsin. She then moved to Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota graduating from the School of Nursing in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with distinction. At graduation she was also inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. She also attended Dental School at the University of Michigan and graduate school at Wayne State University and the University of Minnesota.
Cate worked as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care for a large part of her career but later became a Certified Tumor Registrar in 2004. Cate also was a Captain in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. She also was a business woman and owner of CEllis, Inc. At CEllis, she designed custom dyed natural fiber fabrics, shabori silks, needlepoint, and cross stitch accessories.
Cate lived in Warrenton, MO since 1997. Cate was married to J. Keith Hampton in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 9, 1981. Cate moved several times in her life for education, professional, and family reasons. Cate lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, Wichita Falls, Texas, San Antonio, Texas, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and finally Warrenton, Missouri.
Cate was a voracious reader, gardener, cook and sewer. She filled 9 acres with native Missouri trees, shrubs, and perennials. She was also ready to try a new recipe, new book, or an adventure. She was a wonderful story teller, had a beautiful smile, a wonderful laugh, and a keen sense of humor.
Cate was a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Sewing Guild, the National Cancer Registrars Association, and Sigma Theta Tau, Inc.
Cate is survived by her spouse Keith, 4 dogs Maxine, Lady, Zeke and Junior, and 3 cats Izzy, Squirt, and Mr. Brown.
Cate was preceded in death by her mother Relindes Catherine Alexander Berg. Cate is also survived by her sisters Tracy Ellis (Phillips, WI), Mary Ellis (St. Paul, MN), Jane Ellis (Prescott, WI), brothers Paul Ellis (Eagle River, WI), William Ellis (Plum City, WI), and multiple nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for later in the summer of 2014.
