Beloved wife of the late John Lyon, Jr.; cherished daughter of the late Calogero and Rosina Indelicato; loving mother of the late John Lyon, III, Catherine (Richard) Buckley, Charles (Christine) Lyon, Mary Lyon, James (Lisa) Lyon; devoted grandmother of Daniel Buckley, Lisa (John) Marty, Katie (Bradley) Mueller, Andrew Lyon, Luke Borkowski, Peter Borkowski, Matt Lyon (Jenny Clark), Sarah Lyon, Jake Lyon, Cora Lyon, Joey Lyon, Emily Lyon, Tommy Lyon and Mia Lyon; treasured great-grandmother of Maxwell Marty, Cameron Marty, and Ella Mueller; dear sister of the late Ralph Indelicato and the late Jasper Indelicato; and dear cousin of Mary Ann DiCarlo and the late Rose Romito. Catherine was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Catherine’s family immigrated from Sicily through Ellis Island, and she was in the first family generation born in the United States. She was extremely proud of her Sicilian heritage and was a devout Catholic. Throughout her life, she was a very active member in each of her parish communities. Catherine was a pillar of strength for her family; her husband and children meant the world to her. She adored her family and dedicated her life to them.
After graduating from Rosati Kain High School, Catherine was proud to be a secretary for ten years at a medical office and Monsanto, where she met John. Catherine played the piano and loved classical music. She was well known for her Sicilian cooking, making many family recipes she knew by heart. She was especially famous for her lasagna, bolognese sauce, pasta tutto mare, and "monster cookies", all made from scratch. Catherine loved to garden and grew her own flowers and vegetables; she was particularly proud of her large collections of roses, hostas, and her tomatoes, which she used for her homemade sauce. In her free time, she was an avid seamstress who enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery. She loved making quilts - and made well over 100, all by hand - for her family and for soldiers through Quilts of Valor.
