Catherine "Kay" Simon

Catherine “Kay” H. Simon (nee Vogt), of St. Charles, MO, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 92. Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth W. Simon; her parents, Henry and Catherine Vogt; brothers, Henry “Hank” Vogt, Jr. and John “Jack” Vogt; sister, Martha Molitor, and granddaughter, Lisa Murray.  She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends; daughters, Peggy (Daniel) Murray and Judith “Judy” (John) Dashner; grandchildren, Daniel (Carrie) Murray, Jr., William (Becky) Murray, Nicholas Dashner and Jennifer (James) Broyles; great-grandchildren, Gavin Murray and Elisabeth Murray; sister, Margaret “Margie” Larimore; brother, James “Jim” Vogt; and sisters-in-law, Jeannette Maschmidt and Joanne Vogt.  

Kay graduated from St. Peter’s Catholic High School in 1949 and married Kenneth Simon of Portage des Sioux in 1951.  She studied bookkeeping at Brown Business School in St. Louis, and worked for Vogt Brothers Poultry Farm, Venetian Harbor, and St. Charles Golf Course, eventually becoming President of St. Charles Golf Course.  In her younger years, Kay enjoyed square dancing, bowling and playing pinochle.  She enjoyed many years of boating on the Mississippi river with Ken, family and friends.   In recent years, she enjoyed going to the casino, reading, working on puzzles, St. Louis Cardinal baseball games and playing Rummikub with her family.  

Kay was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Francis Catholic Church of Portage des Sioux and later, St. Cletus Catholic Church. She volunteered as a substitute teacher at St. Francis School and as a reading volunteer with children at St. Peter Catholic School. She taught PSR classes and baked many pies for parish picnics. Kay was her family’s prayer warrior.  She prayed many times throughout the day and faithfully said her rosary, praying for her entire family.
