Charles H. Vandegriffe of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday September 12, 2018, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 71 wonderful years to Betty L. Vandegriffe; cherished son of the late Leonard and Ethyl Vandegriffe; loving father of Charles (Yvonne) Vandegriffe, Jr., Catherine (Richard) Koenig, Mark (Sue) Vandegriffe, and Kevin Vandegriffe; adored grandfather of Renee, Amy, Brian (Eva), Catrina, Sarah (Matt), Drew (Colleen), Dana (Scott), and Chad; treasured great-grandfather of Regan True, Natalie Catherine, Jack Charles, Evan Scott, Lucas Ryan, Zoe Brianne, Nolan Robert, Alexander Charles, Madisyn Marie, Lucas Edward, Emma Grace, Noah, Blakely, Aiden, Liam, and Ava; dear brother of Valerie Lafonte.
Charles was a pioneer in the Information Technology field. He worked for the Federal Government as Director of IT, GS-15 for ALMSA, where he developed the first computerized logistics system in the world. He also worked as Director of IT for Ralston Purina, where he developed the 4
th private computer system in the world. Charles worked as a consultant as well, for both EDS Consulting and Ernst and Young, and also worked for America Investment. Charles was a talented author and published three books as well as numerous articles as a freelance writer for a local paper.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Charles was a dedicated family man and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved. He will be remembered by his family for his love and zest for life, and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
