Charles Hunt Bushnell

Memorials may be made to St. Louis Veterans' Home Committee Perpetual Trust Fund. BUSHNELL, Sr., Charles Hunt, St. Charles, MO, died Sunday, March 11. He was a life member of VFW Post 2866 in St. Charles. He also was a life member of the Historical Society of St. Charles. He joined the Marine Corps the day after Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, which was given the duty of retaking the islands of the South Pacific that were held by the Japanese. He served from Guadalcanal, Saipan, Okinawa, Tarawa, Tinian and then landed at Nagaski, Japan to receive the surrender of the forces on the homeland of Japan. He served from 1942 through 1945. On his return home, he accepted a position of Superintendent of the Buildings and Grounds at Lindenwood College where he lived and worked for 28 years. He was active in the building of the chapel in St. Charles Presbyterian Church where he served as president of the deacons. He was active with his son?s Boy Scout troop where his son earned Eagle Scout Rank and both were elected by the boys to the Order of the Arrow. He was also active in the many activities of his daughter. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Charles Hunt Bushnell, Jr., his mother and father Sam and Gertrude Bushnell, two brothers, Wilbur and Richard Bushnell and one sister, Frances Miller. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Lillian Duey Bushnell and daughter, Barbara Ann Reiss and her husband, Tom, one grandson Mitchell Barklage, one brother William Everett and wife Millie Bushnell and sister-in-law Loy Bushnell. Services: Friends may gather from Saturday, March 24, 2007 11:30 AM ? 12:00 PM. Memorial Service 12:00 PM Saturday at The Baue Chapel of St. Charles, St. Charles, MO. A private burial of Charles? cremated remains will be at Jefferson Barracks Nat'l Cemetery, St. Louis Missouri.
