Charles William Long, age 89, departed this world on Tuesday, December 19 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 7, 1934, in Newport Arkansas, Charles was the beloved son of Kirk Long and Mary (Gill) Long.
Charles was cherished as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was marked by honorably serving his country in the United States Army.
Charles was a truck driver for over 50 years. He retired from Boeing in 1999 and went back to work driving all over the country providing mail transportation, before his final retirement in 2020.
Charles was a simple country boy. He loved his family, fishing, and working. That was his way of life. He was a fine man, sort of quiet, but he did love his football and hockey.
In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Long and Helen Long Reithmeyer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Lola (Bartlett) Long; his son, Chuck (Lora) Long; his grandson, Charles (Kara) Long Jr; granddaughters Rachel long and Heather Lee. Charles leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
We will have a celebration of life for Charles in the Spring, a season of renewal and hope, reflecting on his legacy and love.
Charles was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
