Charles “Charlie” G. Slaybaugh, of Palm Harbor, FL, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at the age of 86. Born and raised in Murphysboro, IL, Charlie went on to spend his working years in St. Louis, MO, before retiring to Palm Harbor, FL.
Beloved husband of the late Carol A. Slaybaugh; loving son of the late Paul and Velma Slaybaugh; dear step-brother of the late Richard “Sunny” Ingram. Cherished father of Michael (Mollie Fitts) Slaybaugh, Keith (Barbara Aldridge) Slaybaugh, Diane (Larry) Forte, Debbie (Roger) King, Dori Cundiff and the late Dave (Debbie Webb) Allen; treasured grandfather of 14; great-grandfather of 24; and great-great grandfather of one. Charlie proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Army and was a longtime member of the American Legion. One of his greatest joys was taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was passionate about restoring his ’56 Plymouth Fury and enjoyed traveling with his Plymouth Club.
Charlie loved the outdoors. He was an avid golf player, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed serving as captain, giving boat tours for his community. Charlie was always quick with a joke, and ready to take a spin on the dance floor. Most of all, Charlie was always willing to give a helping hand whenever he could. He always gave his time, his advice and his love. Charlie was a loyal friend and a loving part of our family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Charles's name to Honor Flight of West Central Florida.
