Claud “Wayne” Cowan, of O'Fallon, MO, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Bonnie Cowan; cherished son of the late Reuben and Helen Cowan; devoted father of Melissa Wyers and the late Mellanie M. Lewenczuk; loving grandfather of Hannah Lewenczuk, Miah (Devin) Swearingin, Calen Pappert, Joshua Lewenczuk, and Julia Friederich; treasured great-grandfather of Ava Layne Swearingin; dear brother of Gordon (Linda) Cowan, Mittie (John) Wally, Margie Jo (the late Rick) Butler, and Larry (Mary) Cowan; Wayne is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Wayne proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy for 22 years, where he retired as Lieutenant Commander after two stints in Vietnam and being a member of the Explosive Ordinance Division. He was also a registered nurse that worked in the ICU at Christian Northeast Hospital. He was active in the men’s prayer club and had a strong faith in God. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He liked to deer hunt, grow tomatoes and he was a hard worker. Wayne was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
