Echele, Cyril T., of Owensboro, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the age of 97. Dearest husband of 54 years to the late Margaret H. Echele; dear son of the late William and the late Elizabeth Simon Echele; loving father of Gregory (Gail) Echele, Jerome (Angie) Echele and Helen (Dr. Fred) Meister; cherished grandfather of Gregory Jr. (Angie) Echele, Robert (Barbara) Echele, Christopher Echele, Christian Echele, Jeremiah Echele, Alexander Echele, Joseph (Ashley) Meister, Tobias Meister, Adam Meister, Maura (Anthony) Landers, Faith Echele, Angele Echele, Alise Echele and Molly (Mark) Roebker; cherished great-grandfather of Anthony Landers, Sarah and Matthew Davis, Kathryn, Jacob, Grace and John Echele, Libby, Tommy, Mary and John Roebker; beloved uncle and cousin. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Anne Echele and Genevieve Wolf, and an infant daughter. He was a native of St. Charles, MO, and graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree (Philosophy) in 1934 and a Master of Arts Degree (History) in 1956. He retired as a college teacher, was active in social-justice issues his entire life and spent 5 years working in the Catholic Worker Movement in New York City, Easton, PA and St. Louis, MO (1935-1940). He was an avid reader, writer, philosopher, historian, politician, nutritionist and organic gardener.
