Memorials may be made to To the Family. Daniel Patrick Devery, was born June 20, 1929 on the family farm in County Offaly, Ireland. He was the 6th of 7 children born to Bridget and James Devery. Daniel had an adventurous spirit and moved from Ireland to England at the age of 21. While in England, he met a pretty red haired Irish lassie named Ellen Mary Kelly. They dated and fell in love but Danny still had a yearning to see the world. In 1955 at the age of 26, he moved to the wilds of Alberta, Canada to work as a land surveyor. He and Ellen continued a long distance relationship and in 1959 she moved to Canada where they were married on November 14th, 1959. In 1963, they moved to the St. Louis area to settle down and raise their daughter and son. Daniel enjoyed life to the fullest and loved spending time playing and laughing with his grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Local 42 Laborer's Union until his retirement in 1991. He had a life long passion for traditional Irish music and began playing the accordion at an early age. He played in many Irish bands over the years and brought joy to many people with his music. His foot was still tapping to the Irish music on the day he died. He is preceded in death by his loving granddaughter Julie Ann Devery; his parents Bridget and James Devery; brothers - Peter Devery (Molly), Joe Devery (Julia), Jimmy Devery (Kitty); sister - Lizzie Connolly (Alphonsos). He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years Ellen Mary Devery; daughter - Rosaleen Patricia Hughes (John); son - Brendan Kelly Devery (Tracy); grandchildren - Brendan Kelly Devery Jr and Claire Kathleen Hughes; sisters - Bridget Burke (Shamus) and Molly Devery (Sister Felicitas); as well as his loving niece in Texas, and a host of loving nieces and nephews in Ireland and other family and friends. His laughter and music will be missed by all.
