He began his career at age 16 working for Shrader’s Market on Fifth Street in St. Charles. He then worked for IGA on Fifth & Clark, and moved to the North End Grocery. Dave stayed in the meat cutting industry with all four Hedges & Hafer stores through the union, and he worked at various stores in Missouri and Illinois.
Dave loved to socialize, and be the life of the party! As a true family man, he cherished time spent with his family. Whether his kids were creating puppet shows for him to watch or they were taking family vacations to Florida and Branson, he made sure they always had a good time. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country for more than 12 years. Dave also loved joking around with his family and telling funny stories to everyone he could amuse. He also liked going to the drive-in movies with his family. Above all, he was a great protector and provider for his family and insured they were safe at all times.
Dave was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals on TV. As a participant, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, baseball, and softball. Most importantly, he looked forward to coaching his kids’ baseball, basketball, and softball teams. He also received an award from the Special Olympics committee for donating his retirement party money to their organization. Dave liked doing yard work and spending time outdoors. As an animal lover, he had many dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, and birds to companion with throughout the years. He was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
