Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation. David M. Hawkins, was born December 14, 1939 in Trion, Georgia. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Virgil D. Hawkins and the father of two children, a daughter, Janice (Ed) Hawkins Aholt and a son, the late Stephen A. Hawkins; grandfather to Christopher P. Aholt, Nicholas E. Aholt and Joshua M. Aholt; great-grandfather to Jonah Aholt; dear brother of Eddie Hawkins and Jimmy (Valarie) Hawkins. He was educated at the Gore Elementary School and Summerville Grade School. He graduated from Berry Academy and attended Tennessee Temple Bible School and Lael University. He was employed by Ford Motor Company for 30 years before his retirement. He is a retired Ordained Baptist Minister, who had held Revivals and taught Bible classes. David Hawkins has memberships in, and had actively participated in Poetry organizations, such as: Georgia State Poetry Society, American Poetry Association and Southern Poetry Association. Special honors for his work included: Nashville Newsletter; Honorable Mention, Who's Who in Poetry; 1989, Golden Poet Award; 1989, American Poetry Association; National Library of Poetry, Editor's Choice, 1989. Other works include, Two Gospel tracks, Sermon outlines and Bible studies. Besides his writing he enjoyed many other hobbies; Bible study, Woodworking, History, The Civil War, Indians, Pioneer Days, Horticulture, Genealogy, Antique Restoration and Flea Markets. He said his philosophy was: "To inspire and be inspired, is our primary purpose, all else is secondary or boring."
