David R. McClelland

July 5, 1947 — March 5, 2021

David R. McClelland of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away at the age of 73 on Friday, March 5, 2021.  Beloved son of the late Rev. Earl and Genevieve McClelland; loving husband of Linda McClelland, devoted father of L. Michelle (John) Kakac and Veronica "Ronnie" (John) Giannakis; cherished grandfather of Meegan Baum, Courtney Kakac, Chelsea Kakac, Brenton Giannakis, Phillip Giannakis, John-Michael Kakac, and Lindsey Giannakis; dear brother of Iris (Joe) Stonecipher; and his sister-in-law, Dauna McClelland.  David was also preceded in death by his siblings Earline Obermeyer and Wayne McClelland.

David proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 312 for many years. After serving in the military, David worked as a police officer with the Florissant Police Dept. for ten years, where he was promoted to detective during the last four years of his service.  He absolutely loved his duty as a police officer and serving the community where he lived.  He then went on to work for McDonnell Douglas, and he enjoyed a successful career there for 30 years with the security department.

David met his wife through a church friend when they were just young teenagers, and they reconnected when he was stationed overseas with the military.  They were soon wed on one of his leaves and they traveled back to California together.  They started their family with their firstborn, Michelle, while in California, then headed back home to settled down in Missouri. They soon added to their family with Ronnie, and after the girls grew up and were married, the wonderful addition of the grandchildren came along.  David truly cherished his time with his grandkids, and they loved their goofy, crazy, and fun-loving grandpa!

Those who knew David, knew that he was simply the life of the party wherever he went and that he was a fantastic and humorous man.  He was a mischievous prankster and a practical joker who enjoyed being around people and always looked forward to visiting with family and friends.

David was also very generous and giving, and was truly ready to do anything for anyone, and never thought of himself before others.  He loved his family and they were always at the top of his list, and it was a great source of strength for them to know that David loved them so very much and would do anything for them.

David was an alumnus of Lindenwood University where he earned his MBA.  In his spare time he learned to fly and obtained his license as private pilot, and he would take to flying every chance he could.

For fun, David enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing solitaire on his computer.  He looked forward to camping trips with his family, where he could be adventurous and daring, especially around the campfires.

David will be remembered for his kind and loving character.  He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the American Cancer Society.
