Dave went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2024. His wife of 52 years, Cathy (nee Wiseman), daughter Lisa Wilson (Jeff), son Dave Schall (Stephanie), grandson Colton Schall, granddaughter Madeline Schall, sisters Carolyn Sorrell (Bill) and Jean Heinemann (Karl) survives him. He was preceded in death by his mom, Evelyn Schall (nee Fennell) and dad Henry Schall. He was a devoted husband, father, “paw paw”, brother, uncle, and friend. Most importantly, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior several years ago and we rest in assurance He is with Jesus now. Dave’s favorite Bible passage was Psalm 23.
Known for his huge smile and big, strong hugs, Dave loved people and always had a smile on his face when he saw you to prove it. Spending time and creating memories and lots of laughs with his wife, kids, and grandkids brought him great joy. His favorite vacation spot was Silver Dollar City where he loved being there with family and just taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells together. He was a huge sports fan, loving the Cardinals, Chiefs, and Mizzou.
Dave bravely served in Bong Son, Vietnam from May 1968-July 1970 as an Army Gunnery Sergeant E5 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He always reflected on his time in the military with great honor and was extremely proud to have served his country. Because of his work as a paratrooper during his time in Vietnam he was exposed to the chemical agent orange. This exposure resulted in a brain tumor diagnosis in 2008 causing him to retire from a career as potato chip route salesman. Because of complications during the removal of the tumor, he spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair and needing extensive care. By God’s grace, his family, team of doctors, medication, and the Lord were all able to fulfill his every need which allowed us all 15 extra years with him that we weren’t sure we would get. Dave was so grateful to celebrate 50 years of marriage to his bride, see both of his kids get married and see his grandkids into their teenage years.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
