David W. Colvin, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the age of 71.
David was born in St. Louis at Lutheran Hospital on November 3, 1941 to Ellis Cooper Colvin and Alta Myrtle "Snooks" Colvin. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1959 and then graduated from Lindenwood Grade School in 1955. He also subsequently attended Washington University via night courses until 1962.
Starting in 1960, for three years, he sang tenor with the Metropolitan Singers of St. Louis, the Premier singing group in St. Louis area. One had to try out to be a member of this exclusive group, and new members were rarely accepted. The group was led by Helen Louis Graves, the music consultant for the St. Louis Board of Education. While David was a member, the group held many performances including singing on KMOX radio, at Union Station, at the Sheraton Jefferson Hotel and Christmas performances of Handel's Messiah for three consecutive years with the St. Louis Symphony ay Powell Symphony Hall. David has also joined the engineering division at McDonnell Douglas in October of 1962 and retired in December of 1996.
David is survived by his children Loren Colvin, Stephen Colvin, and Scott Colvin; his brother Clarence E. "Cup" (Kathy) Colvin; nieces and nephews, Timothy Colvin, Jeff and Kimberly Snellen (nee: Colvin), Michael (Rose) Colvin, Mark Colvin, and Joyce Davis (nee: Skiles); his great nieces and nephews, Samantha Snellen, Jeffrey Snellen, Jr., Channon (James) Fults, Emily (Jason) Crabtree, Michael Colvin, Marcus Colvin, Cash Fults, and Remington Crabtree; and his special friends Don Grothen, Sandra Reinhardt, and Debra J. Boussum. His is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ellis Cooper Colvin and Alta Myrtle "Snooks" Colvin; his brother Cecil Colvin, and special friend Stephanie Grothen who was like a daughter to him.
