Delbert C. Peters of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed Friday, February 9, 2018, at the age of 87. Loving husband of 51 years to the late Audrey J. Peters (nee: Klauschie); beloved son of the late Constantine and Ruth Peters (nee: Leuthaeuser); devoted father of Valorie Peters, Douglas (Marsha) Peters, Kay Peters, and David Peters; cherished grandfather of Derek Peters and Stephanie (Mark) Morgan; treasured great grandfather of Cora, Lena, and Kenna Morgan; and dear brother of Marilyn (the late Joseph) Brown, Elaine (Vincent) Bird, Marjorie (Shelby) Brightwell, Janice (Gary) VanCleve, Lorene (the late Larry) Stones, Karen (Dave) Stiehle, and Vivian (Tom) Schirmer.
Delbert proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1957 with his bachelor’s in Business. He retired after more than 34 years as a facilities engineer with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft/Boeing.
Delbert took pilot’s lessons at Omaha Aircraft Company but did not receive his license because he was too young to solo. He married Audrey in 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE. In 1970 the O’Fallon, MO Chamber of Commerce selected him as Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the community. He served as mayor of the City of O’Fallon, MO from 1969 to 1971 and from 1973 to 1975, and 8 years as an Alderman, and he was also a board member for Youth in Need. He was a Charter Member and the first president of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in O’Fallon, MO.
