Delores “Dee” Cropper

June 29, 1934 — April 18, 2016

Cropper, Delores “Dee”, of Saint Charles, MO, died on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the age of 81. Beloved daughter of Joseph and Fern Cropper; and cherished aunt and great-aunt of many. She is preceded in death by her siblings Donald Ginder, Marjorie Jo Parker, Lillian Ruth Shafenberg, Mildred Lanvermeier; and Joseph E. “Junior” Cropper.

Delores was born and raised in Foley, Missouri. After graduating from Elsberry High School in 1952, she worked temporarily for Congressman Clarence Cannon. In February 1953, she received a call that he had an opening in his Washington D.C. office, which she accepted and moved to Washington D.C. Delores worked in his office for six years, then she worked for Congressman Wint Smith of Kansas for two and half years. Mr. Smith retired and she then worked for Senator Edward V. Long from Bowling Green, Missouri. Living and working in Washington D.C. was a wonderful experience for a young girl from a very small town, and Delores was grateful for the opportunity. She returned to Missouri in late 1964 and worked for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, where the majority of her career was spent in their electronics division in St. Charles, Missouri. Delores later worked in the marketing department and eventually became the secretary to the vice president of marketing. In 1980, Delores passed a six-part test and became a Certified Professional Secretary. After 31 years of employment, she retired from McDonnell Douglas on November 30, 1996.

Since retirement Delores has spent a lot of time making quilt tops, and charity quilts for young children. She was a past president of Calico Needlers Quilt Guild in St. Charles and has been active in the guild in many other capacities. Prior to her retirement, she was president of the St. Charles Chapter of Professional Secretaries International and also served as secretary on the Missouri Division Board of PSI. Delores will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
