Memorial contributions may be made to Lindenwood University American Humanics Human Service Program. Dennis C. Spellmann, 70 of St. Charles died August 30, 2006. He was born February 19, 1936, to Clyde and Alva (Hartman) Spellman in Nixon, Texas. Dr. Spellmann was President of Lindenwood University for the past 17 years. He is credited with the turn around of many universities and businesses. He was a Certified City Planner, worked as City Manager of several cities in Texas and served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corp. Dr. Spellmann was a civic leader with a passion for the Boy Scouts of America, the YMCA and many other organizations. He was certified with American Humanics in 1958, and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award as well as Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. He is survived by his mother, Alva Spellman of Portland, Texas; his wife, Carol Sue Spellmann (nee: Spreckelmeyer) of St. Charles; one daughter, Sheryl Kay Guffey of St. Peters; one son, Earl William Spellmann of Georgia; three sisters, Betty Lou Detmer, Dixie Lee Guyer, Janet Ruth Hooper; one brother, Jonathan Christian Spellman, all of Texas; and two grandchildren, Ryan Vance Guffey and Daniel Dennis Guffey. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Spellman and one brother, Royce Spellman.
