Deward Glen Terry was born on May 23, 1925, in Risco, Missouri and died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on May 25, 2021 at the age of 96 years, 2 days. He was the only child of Ruby and Elmos Terry. He is survived by his wife, Pat, daughter, Jane Ketcherside (Gryfon) of St. Charles, grandson, Ben Ketcherside (Brielle) and great-granddaughter, Kaylee of Montgomery City. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mark.
He attended the Risco Schools, graduating in 1942. After attending Business College in Poplar Bluff, he joined the Marines and went through basic training in San Diego, California. From there, he went to Hawaii and on to the South Pacific, engaging in the Battle of Iow Jima. He spent six months with the occupation forces in Nagasaki, Japan. He returned to the Naval Base in Chicago and was honorably discharged. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a B.S. in Education on May 16, 1949, and on that same day became engaged to Patty Jane Mabery. He accepted a position as a Physical Education Instructor in Lilbourn, Missouri.
In 1952, Deward and Pat moved to Bonne Terre, where he was employed by the Bonne Terre Farming and Cattle Company, continuing in various positions until retiring in 1985 as the Purchasing Agent for St. Joe Minerals in Viburnum, MO.
Deward was a member of the Bonne Terre Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon and later as an Elder. In 2005, Deward and Pat relocated to O’Fallon, Missouri. They joined the O’Fallon Church of Christ, quickly making many close friends in the church family. He enjoyed many sports, but especially Cardinals Baseball. Deward was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Deward's name to Church of Christ-O'Fallon or Bonne Terre.
